Healthy Activities to Try in Honolulu
February 07 ,2023

It’s easy to work a little wellness into your Prince Waikiki getaway. In fact, many experiences and attractions in Honolulu and on O‘ahu are naturally nurturing for the body, mind, and soul. Whether you’re building a bucket list packed with high-energy outdoor adventures, planning your next great golf getaway, or in need of some blissed-out serenity, a stay at Prince Waikiki promises plenty of opportunities to feel your best and stay active during your visit.

Get Out For Some Golf

It’s impossible to have a bad game in Honolulu. With lush greens, breathtaking views, and courses that combine peaceful and exhilarating into one experience, it’s the perfect place to tee off an unforgettable round. Plus, if you can part with your cart, golf is a great way to get your steps in, no matter your skill level or play style.

A golf experience unlike any other in Honolulu awaits at our very own Hawaii Prince Golf Club. This 27-hole course was designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay and is broken out into three interchangeable nines. It’s a choose-your-own-adventure course that you can play several times throughout your stay, and enjoy different challenges, surprises, and sights each round.

Drive a little further into the heart of the stunning Maunawili Valley — between the Mount Olomana and Koʻolau Mountains — to the Royal Hawaiian Golf Club. Recently redesigned by Greg Norman, this course is home to beautiful royal palms, bananas, koa trees, and water full of native Hawaiian fish. Discover even more must-play golf courses in Honolulu.

Ride the Waves

It’s only natural to feel drawn to the surf during your Honolulu getaway. After all, our Pacific paradise is where modern surfing originated. The calm, gentle waters of nearby Waikiki Beach are perfect for beginners or little ones looking to get their feet wet. Known for its shallow depth and long, rolling break, it’s the ideal spot to learn the basics of the sport in an iconic setting. With a bit of help from an experienced instructor, you might find yourself standing up sooner than you’d think. If you’re looking to take your newfound skills to a different setting, Diamond Head
Beach is home to rugged volcanic beauty, only a 15-minute drive from Prince Waikiki.

Chasing something a little bigger? Home of the world-renowned Seven Mile Miracle, O‘ahu’s North Shore is a legendary location for the world’s most wow-worthy waves and is synonymous with professional surfing. Thrill seekers will be spoiled year-round with large swells in locations like Waimea Bay, but this stretch of coastline does offer some more serene spots for novices, too. Beaches like Puaʻena Point Beach Park and Kawela Bay are surprisingly inviting for newer surfers hoping to get in on the action.

A visit during our winter season, between November and March, promises celebrity surfer sightseeing, with many big wave surfing competitions taking place here. These powerful, awe-inspiring waves — sometimes reaching heights of up to 30 feet — are dangerous for even the more experienced surfers, so it’s important to heed the warnings to stay safe.

Find Balance & Bliss

Even the most on-the-go adventurers need a little stillness sometimes. Embrace a slower pace and spend an afternoon on cloud nine at Prince Waikiki’s
Naio Bliss Spa, where sore muscles are soothed, and spirits are rejuvenated. If you’re taking stillness extra seriously, we’ll bring the spa to your suite with our Wellness to Your Room offerings. It’s like room service for your soul.

Indulge in treatments inspired by elements of the land and ocean. Enjoy a Muliwai Hydrating Facial, an intensely moisturizing anti-aging treatment inspired by the freshwater of the mountains and the alkaline water of the ocean. Choose from a selection of serene massage techniques, from the ancient Lomi Lomi method to our Hāpai pregnancy massage. Or, find the perfect package for an all-day spa getaway.

Aquatic Adventures

In Honolulu, every beautiful beach is your gateway to a host of aquatic activities and underwater adventures, from snorkeling and scuba diving to parasailing and kayaking. With 1,200 miles of coral reef surrounding O‘ahu, you’re likely to encounter vibrant reef fish, sea turtles,
rays, and other incredible marine life that call our waters home.

Explore the colorful, underwater world just beneath the surface at Queens Beach and Sans Souci beaches, each about a 10-minute drive from Prince Waikiki. Quieter than other sections of Waikiki Beach and ideal for beginners when the waves are calm, they’re spectacular snorkeling spots in a designated Marine Life Conservation District. Or, travel 20 minutes down the coast to Haunama Bay Nature Preserve, where you can reserve guided tours for the whole family or unique sail and snorkel excursions.

Looking for a memorable adventure? Make a trip to Lanikai Beach, known for its fine sand and calm waters. Rent a kayak and paddle to a group of small islands about a mile offshore. In addition to the area’s rich marine life, it’s a designated bird sanctuary and home of the wedge-tailed shearwater bird.

Get Some Fresh Air

Trail to Makapu'u Point Lighthouse, Oahu, Hawaii

Ocean, waterfalls, mountains, and beaches — escaping into the diverse nature of O‘ahu is one of the best things you can do for your body and mind. From relaxing walks to sweat-breaking hikes, every iconic lookout, picnic spot, and hiking trail shares the promise of showstopping views.

Makapuʻu Point trail is a must-visit for travelers seeking a leisurely trek along the island’s coast. This approachable route is a short, paved 2.5-mile roundtrip with views of the towering Makapuʻu Lighthouse. For a hike a little more off the beaten path, wander over to Koko Crater Trail. Located just a 30-minute drive from Prince Waikiki, this trail is a leftover WWII railroad used to shuttle supplies and personnel up and down the steep mountain. The abandoned railroad now provides an invigorating hike that rewards you with expanding vistas of Hanauma Bay.

Up for a challenge? The Waimano Falls Trail offers a worthwhile reward for its 2.9 miles of mixed terrain, each step bringing you closer to a cascading waterfall and swimmable pool, complete with a rope swing. The secret to a successful Waimano Falls hike is to go the day after a rainfall when the waterfall is flowing and the pool is deep.
