3 Fantastic Hiking Spots for the Whole Family

It’s time to wake up and lace your athletic shoes because it’s time for your family to hike the beautiful surroundings of Prince Waikiki. Oahu and Waikiki HI offer many scenic trails for you to enjoy, all while getting some much-needed exercise!

Makiki Valley

The Hawaii Nature Center features a three section loop trail located in the fabulous Makiki Valley. Approaching the trailhead, you’ll find the Kanealole Trail to your left and the Maunalaha Trail to your right. At the far end, these trails connect with the Makiki Valley Trail. It’s a great outing for the whole family as it offers a 2.5-mile loop where you can enjoy calming streams and lush foliage. To avoid steep inclines at the end of your hike, we recommend turning left at the Kanealole Trail.

Makapu’u Point Lighthouse

While the lighthouse is a spectacle in and of itself, you’ll want to experience the stunning shoreline of the Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail. You’ll love the paved pathways and two observation points along your path as you wind your way through the southeastern coast. Catch amazing vistas and panoramic views during your 1.5-mile stroll. You may even spot majestic whales on your hike!

Diamond Head

Diamond Head Trail, one of the more challenging hikes in Waikiki HI, offers terrific views of the island after a 0.8-mile hike. While it might look intimidating, this trail is typically completed within 40-to-60 minutes as you ascend to the 560-foot summit. This trail is perfect for families, and you’ll also want to experience the Diamond Head Monument while visiting.

After returning to Prince Waikiki, take a break and relax poolside under one of our cabanas to round out your fabulous day exploring Waikiki HI. Whether you embark on a long trail or a quiet stroll around our property, you’ll love spending a few days at our beautiful Hawaiian resort.
