luxury hotels in waikikiMany tourists from the lower 48 states are pleasantly surprised to discover the vibrant, imaginative art scene here in Honolulu, especially in the rising neighborhood of Kaka’ako. Prince Waikiki is one of the only luxury hotels in Waikiki within one mile of this creative community. Not only is Kaka’ako plump with innovative cuisine, top-tier breweries, and a dynamic music scene, but this neighborhood is home to the annual Pow! Wow! Hawaii street art festival. Don’t miss the opportunity to view 2018’s incredible street murals before they’re painted over in February.

Pow! Wow! Hawaii

Every February the creative community in Kaka’ako gathers to celebrate culture, music, and art. Artists from across the world, including local phenoms, paint unique murals on the neighborhood’s walls. Pow! Pow! reuses each space, so these wild creations have a one-year shelf life. Kama’aina and visiting art enthusiasts stroll through Kaka’ako every year to document these beautiful murals. Street art festivals are also occasionally often held in China, Japan, California, Washington D.C., Texas, and Massachusetts. Pow! Wow! Hawaii has successfully painted the streets by storm seven years in a row!

Art Crawl through Kaka’ako

What makes Kaka’ako incredibly unique is that the neighborhood looks beautifully dissimilar every year. Currently on display are imaginative murals of Hawaiian mermaids, a motorhome treehouse, and everything in between. You can witness each painting on foot by embarking on a one-mile art crawl through Kaka’ako. Each unique mural is a short distance from Mother Waldron Neighborhood Park.
