The Best Hikes in Oahu
The island of Oahu is a jaw-dropping natural marvel with a seemingly endless system of nature hikes ranging from easy to difficult. Countless beloved movies and television shows have been filmed throughout our beautiful landscape, most notably Jurassic Park and ABC’s Lost. We’ve hand-selected three of our favorite “easy” hikes here in Oahu, all of which are a short drive from Prince Waikiki’s luxurious ocean-view Honolulu lodging. Whether you’re hoping to stand underneath a 150-foot waterfall, observe Oahu’s breathtaking Pacific Ocean cliffs, or trek deep into a tropical rainforest, you’ll find an easy yet unforgettable trail near Honolulu that perfectly suits your hiking abilities.
Manoa Falls Trail
Manoa Falls is one of the most recognized waterfalls in the United States as it swiftly plunges from a 150-foot-tall cliff face in the heart of a jaw-dropping Hawaiian tropical rainforest. The popular 1.6-mile Manoa Falls Trail is an easy, scenic hike for outdoor enthusiasts looking for a brisk albeit rewarding adventure. The trail’s diverse flora and sweeping Manoa Valley mountain views are visually stunning, but the waterfall itself is an undeniably otherworldly experience. Manoa Falls is so tall that’s it’s nearly impossible to capture the entire natural marvel in a photograph. The waterfall is only five miles from our lavish ocean-view Honolulu lodging – we highly recommend combining a trip to Manoa Falls with the nearby Puu Pia Trail.
Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Lookout Trail
Makapu’u Point is perhaps the most beautiful lookout in Oahu, and it’s only 14.5 miles from Waikiki Beach. The 2.5-mile Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Lookout Trail is a smooth, gradual climb to Makapu’u Head where you’ll enjoy genuinely jaw-dropping views of Koko Crater, the Pacific Ocean, Waimanalo Beach, and the 110-year-old Makapu’u Lighthouse. You can even see Moloka’i island on a clear day! Despite being a 2.5-mile out-and-back trek, the trip only takes about an hour.
Puu Pia Trail
The Puu Pia Trail combines majestic Manoa Valley beauty with the awe-inspiring allure of Honolulu’s cityscape. Puu Pia is an ideal locale to spot a Hawaiian rainbow and is splendidly soothing on a hot summer day because of the rainforest’s shade. You’ll spot a wide array of wildflowers and even strawberry guava along the journey. This 1.9-mile out-and-back trail is a slight gradual incline with two breathtaking mountain-top overlooks.
